OHS tennis nips Madison Central

The Oxford tennis team sneaked past Class 6A Madison Central 4-3 Saturday at Avent Park.

Ann Marie Edlin took the girls singles point 6-3, 2-6 (10-4).

Baxter Elliott and Robert Nance won the No. 1 boys doubles match 4-6, 7-5 (11-9) and Quinn Elliott and Will Swindoll claimed the No. 2 boys doubles point 6-1, 6-3.

Judson Watson and Cari Hansen claimed Oxford’s fourth point with a 6-4, 6-4 win in the mixed doubles match.

Arlis Williams lost the boys singles match 6-1, 6-2, Kara Rose and Embrey Inman lost the No. 1 girls doubles match 7-6, 6-7, 10-7, and Sarah Nash and McClellan Davis dropped the No. 2 girls doubles match 4-6, 6-3, 10-4.

Madison Central earned a 2-1 win in the junior varsity matches.

Emily Domke picked up the lone OHS point with a 6-1, 6-4 win in girls singles.

Callan Shinall lost the boys singles point 6-1, 6-1, while Emily Morgan and Eliza Williams lost the girls doubles point 6-1, 7-5.

Oxford improved to 5-0 on the year with the win and will return to action Tuesday against Richland. The match at Avent Park is set for a 4 p.m. start. (March 26, 2012, Page 8)
