An eight-run third inning by New Albany proved to be too much for the Lafayette Commodores to overcome Tuesday night.
The Commodores lost their Division 2-4A opener 12-3 to the Bulldogs at the New Albany Sportsplex. LHS fell behind 10-0 before scoring getting on the board in the fourth. Eli Murphree started on the mound for LHS and was saddled with the loss after giving up nine runs in 2.1 innings of work. He was relieved by Joseph Taylor, who allowed three runs on six hits in 3.2 innings. Lafayette finished with five hits. Tyler Mize had two singles and drove in two of the three runs. Luke Stanley finished with a double, while Murphree and Jake McPhail each had a hit. LHS returns to action Friday at home against New Albany.
