LHS knocks off Olive Branch

The Lafayette baseball team earned a big 10-7 victory at Olive Branch Tuesday.

With the game tied 7-7, the ‘Dores plated three runs in the top of the eighth and were able to hold on by pitching a scoreless frame in the bottom of the inning.

The ‘Dores had surrendered three runs in the sixth inning and another three in the seventh to send the game to the eighth.

Tyler Mize led the team with three hits, while Luke Stanley, Dylan Gossett, John Murphree and Jake McPhail each had two hits.

Stanley and McPhail each recorded doubles as well.

Murphree pitched the bottom of the eighth to earn the win.

Lafayette returns to action Thursday, traveling to play Oxford at 7 p.m.

The game, which can be heard locally on 95.5 FM, was originally scheduled for Friday but was bumped up due to weather concerns. (March 7, 2012, Page 7)
