‘Dores earn first win, clip Corinth

Lafayette’s baseball team knocked off Corinth 8-3 Thursday as part of the Pontotoc Tournament.

With the win, Lafayette improved to 1-2 overall. Luke Stanley, Michael Hudgins and Tyler Mize each recorded two hits. Leadoff hitter D.K. Buford had a game-high three RBIs.

Freshman Eli Murphree started the game for LHS, allowing one unearned run and four hits while striking out five in 3.2 innings.

Senior Dylan Gossett picked up the win, allowing two runs (one earned) in 3.1 innings of relief.
Gossett also struck out two.

Lafayette returns to the diamond on Saturday, playing West Point at 4 p.m and Pontotoc at 6. (March 2, 2012, Page 7A)
