Chargers blank West Point in tennis

Oxford got its region schedule off to a good start with a 7-0 win over West Point Thursday afternoon. The 2-0 Chargers got wins from Quinn Elliott who beat Nate Prather 6-0, 6-1 and Ann Marie Edlin, who topped Kameron Calvert 6-1, 6-0 in singles action.

In doubles, Baxter Elliott and Robert Nance topped Carson Miller and Drew Shirley 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 boys, while Arlis Williams and Judson Watson blanked Alex Hall and Cody Dennis 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. The No. 1 girls doubles team of Kara Rose and Embrey Inman beat Chelsea Ricks and Ereeka Robinson 6-0, 6-2, while the No. 2 team of Sarah Nash and Emily Domke defeated Mikea Hammond and Keira Lyles 6-1, 6-0. The final win for OHS came at mixed doubles as Andrew Mullen and Cari Hansen beat Kameron Calvert and Zane Crosswhite 6-0, 6-1.

Oxford returns action this weekend with matches in the Russellville, Ala., tournament. (March 2, 2012, Page 7A)
