Area youths participate in tournament

The Oxford Fencers Club hosted a youth fencing tournament March 10. Two age groups — Under-12 and Under-16 — competed in the tournament made up of mostly local fencers. Matthew Douglas, who fences at the Memphis University School, won the gold medal in the U-12 division. Elias Addy, who represents the Oxford Park Commission, won the silver medal, while Keelan Case of Oxford won the bronze medal.

In the girls Under-12 division, Lydia Supple of Oxford won the gold medal, while Oxford’s Aubrey Best won the silver.
In the U-16 division, Brett McCracken, who fences at Salle Bosco in the Huntsville, Ala., area took the gold medal in the boys’ division. Oxford’s Robert Rayburn won the silver, while Max Keene of Oxford won the bronze medal. Oxford’s Rebecca Schlett won the gold medal in the U-16 girls’ division. All the local athletes will be back in action Sunday at a youth qualifying competition in Birmingham, Ala. (March 20, 2012, Page 7)
