Whitfield nearly whitewashes OBHS

The final fly ball had barely completed its arc and began descending back to earth before Steven Whitfield began jumping up and down.

And as center fielder Luke Gibbs settled under the third out of the seventh inning, the Charger starting pitcher couldn’t help but simultaneously throw his glove into the cool air in jubilation.

Not only had Whitfield led the Chargers to a 3-1 victory over Olive Branch by going the distance in his first varsity start, but he also pitched 3.1 no-hit innings to start the game. (February 28, 2012, Page 9)
