Rebs hope to have struck gold again

Four years ago the Ole Miss Rebels mined the California community college ranks and found a Gold Glove caliber shortstop in Kevin Mort.

In search of more infield depth — and more specifically, another glove at third base — the Rebels returned to Rio Hondo Community College this offseason and beat out the likes of LSU, Oregon and Cal State-Fullerton for the signature of Andrew Mistone.

After an inconsistent fall, Mistone has shown enough improvement during the preseason that he has positioned himself to see significant playing time at the hot corner along with sophomore slugger Preston Overbey, who will also split time between first and third.

John Gatlin, a fellow junior college transfer, should also see time at third. (February 15, 2012, Page 6)
