BLOG — PONTOTOC — Cinderella is still dancing in the MHSAA’s Class 4A North Half tournament. The overachieving Lafayette Lady Commodores advanced to play for the upcoming state championship in 4A Friday night by earning another impressive win in the Pontotoc High gym.The Lady Commodores, who came into the playoffs as the No. 4 seed out out Division 2-4A, defeated division foe Senatobia 58-52 to ensure at least another two games, with one coming in Jackson at the Mississippi Coliseum at the end of the month. LHS (15-13 overall) won its second game in as many nights Friday by jumping out to an early lead and by holding off a late rally by Senatobia to advance.
Mykira Buford and Mariah Buford led the LHS offense with 15 and 13 points respectively. Not only did the duo score early in the game, they also hit key shots down the stretch to secure the victory over the Lady Warriors.
Up next for LHS, which led Senatobia 37-20 at the half, is a meeting with Pontotoc in the North Half title game Saturday night at 7. Pontotoc defeated Indianola-Gentry to become the second team from the North to advance to Jackson for the upcoming state tournament.
