Rebels host Southern Miss in men’s tennis

The Ole Miss men’s tennis team hosts Southern Miss in the much-anticipated 2012 season opener at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Gillom Sports Center.

Admission to the match is free, and fans will enjoy free pizza.

With no concessions available, fans are free to bring their own beverages to the match.

This is the only time fans can watch the Rebels in the indoor portion of their season.

“We are looking forward to our first dual match. This is an excellent opportunity for our fans coming to campus, to check out tennis,” OM coach Billy Chadwick said.

In the team’s final individual tournament of the season, the SEC Indoor Championships, the Rebels put the SEC on notice, showing that they have the talent to be competitive with the top teams in the country.

The senior twin duo of Marcel Thiemann and Chris Thiemann captured the doubles title, while freshman Nik Scholtz joined junior Jonas Lutjen in the semifinals of singles.

Freshman William Kallberg reached the quarterfinals  including a win over the nation’s No.3 ranked player. (January 25, 2012, Page 7)
