Oxford’s varsity basketball teams earned two region wins over Saltillo on Tuesday night. The Lady Chargers remained undefeated and grabbed a share of the regular season region title with a 91-49 win over the Lady Tigers. Oxford’s boys improved to 17-7 overall and 4-1 in the region thanks to a 67-48 win. Erika Sisk led the Lady Chargers with a 27 points and eight steals.
Kristen Dickerson had 16 points, seven rebounds and seven assists, while Alexus Malone scored 12 points, seven rebounds and four blocks. Oxford, which led 26-17 at the half, was led by Justin Fondren’s 15 points.
Romeo Johnson scored 12 points, while Devin Blackmon and Michael McGhee had 10 and eight points respectively.
Oxford’s ninth-grade Chargers also earned a 36-35 win to improve to 12-3 on the year.
K.T. McCollins led the way with eight points, while Michael Hutchins and Josh Gibbs scored seven and six points. Oxford returns to action Friday at New Hope with two varsity games starting at 6 p.m. Oxford’s next home game comes Saturday against Amory starting with a ninth-grade boys game at 2 p.m. (January 26, 2012, Page 7)
