OMS captures crosstown championship

A well-executed gameplan, improved free-throw shooting and a fast start to the second half were just some of the reasons Oxford swept four middle school basketball games from Lafayette Thursday night in the Oxford High gym.

The Chargers defeated the Commodores 21-11 in the seventh-grade contest and 39-23 in the eighth-grade contest to earn the season sweep. Oxford’s Lady Chargers eeked out a 14-12 win in the seventh-grade contest to avenge an earlier loss to Lafayette, while the eighth-graders topped Lafayette 25-20 after trailing 16-12 at halftime. (January 13, 2012, Page 7A)
