OHS varsity squads sweep West Point

Oxford’s hoops squads swept rival West Point on the road Tuesday. The Oxford boy’s squad claimed a 68-52 victory, while the Lady Chargers earned a 75-44 win.

The OHS boys (13-6 overall, 1-1 1-5A) were led in scoring by Romeo Johnson (26) and Justin Fondren (20).

The Lady Chargers had four players in double-figures on the scoring ledger, led by Moe Pegues (15), Kristen Dickerson (15), Alexus Malone (14) and Erika Sisk (13).

Ivory Alexander also led the OHS girls with 11 rebounds, while Sisk recorded nine steals and five assists.

“It was just a great all-around game, both offensively and defensively,” said OHS girls coach Shayne Linzy, who saw his team improve to 16-0, 2-0.

The 9th-grade boys squad tied West Point 36-36, while the junior varsity girls team improved to 4-1 with a 48-14 victory.

Janesha Johnson had a team-high 17 points for OHS, while Jerrica Hickinbottom and Aulyshia Booker had nine and seven points respectively.

“It was a great defensive performance by the young Lady Chargers,” Linzy said.

OHS will return to action Friday, hosting Saltillo. The ninth-grade boys will kickoff action at 5 p.m. (January 11, 2012, Page 7)
