A second straight MHSAA Class 4A state title and 16-0 overall mark led to several new honors for the Lafayette Commodore football program today.
Lafayette’s finish as the top team in the state garnered them a final ranking of No. 130 out of 16,000 high school teams by MaxPreps.com.
The ratings, known as the Freeman Rankings, utilizes the huge number of game results stored in the MaxPreps database. Generally the more a team wins the higher the ranking, but the system takes into account quality wins against other highly ranked opponents, margin of victory, and strength of schedule. Playoff games are weighed 2.1 times a regular season game.
LHS was honored with a trophy and banner outlining its fantastic season during the MaxPreps Tour of Champions, the second time the website has visited the LHS campus to present the award.
A screaming crowd of students packed the LHS gym to watch this morning’s ceremony. Mississippi Army National Guard Staff Sergeant Jeremy Letson presented LHS coach Anthony Hart with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy. (January 11, 2012, Page 6)
