A week after losing to Yalobusha County rival Coffeeville on the road, the Water Valley Blue Devils defeated the Pirates 59-41 Saturday night at home. The victory improved the Blue Devils to 5-7 overall.
Water Valley also improved to 2-0 in Region 2-3A play thanks to a 57-45 win over South Pontotoc at home on Friday night.
C.J. Jackson led the Blue Devils in scoring in both wins. He finished with 13 points in the win over South Pontotoc, while he had 16 against Coffeeville.
E.J. Bounds had 12 against the Cougars and 15 against the Pirates. Water Valley held a 29-16 lead against South Pontotoc at the half and led by as much as 20 points with three minutes left to play. WVHS also had a 20-poin lead on the Pirates in the third quarter. Both Water Valley varsity teams return to action Tuesday at Aberdeen. (January 16, 2012, Page 9)
