Big run blasts LSU past Ole Miss women

BLOG: The Ole Miss women didn’t start their Southeastern Conference schedule quite like they would have liked it.

Despite trading leads with LSU early in the contest today, the Lady Tigers closed out the first half on a 20-2 run en route to an 83-44 victory.

Jackson native LaSondra Barrett led LSU with 13 points and 13 rebounds, registering her first double-double of the season, while Destini Hughes chipped in 13 points and Jeanne Kenny had 10.

Senior forward Nikki Byrd led Ole Miss with 14 points, while senior guard Whitney Hameth had a team-high nine rebounds.

With the loss Ole Miss fell to 9-4 overall and 0-1 in the SEC.

The Lady Rebels return to action on Thursday, hosting Florida at 7 p.m. (January 1, 2012)
