WVHS hoops sweeps Vardaman

WATER VALLEY — Neither Jason Purdy nor John Sherman were overwhelmed by the performances of their teams on Friday evening, but at the end of the night, a win is a win and they’ll take Water Valley’s sweep of Vardaman.

The Lady Blue Devils held on to win their game 33-30, while the Blue Devils won their season opener in the nightcap 62-50.

Sherman will take his team’s first 1-0 start since he has been in Water Valley, but he was disappointed with how the Blue Devils closed out their game.

The Water Valley boys started the contest on a 12-2 run and even possessed a 21-point lead (48-27) midway through the third quarter.

But then the Blue Devils began forcing passes and making poor decisions, allowing the Rams to make it a game in the fourth frame. (December 5, 2011, Page 3B)
