Oxford earned a sweep of Tupelo Friday night at home.
The Lady Chargers beat Tupelo 71-52, while the Chargers topped the Golden Wave 61-58.
Oxford’s ninth-grade boys team also earned a 41-24 win over Tupelo.
Justin Fondren led the 7-1 Chargers with 21 points, while Nick Brown and Devin Blackmon each scored 12 points.
Oxford hit nine of its 10 free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter to secure the win, while Brown went 6-for-6. Oxford led Tupelo 34-30 at halftime.
K.T. McCollins led the ninth-grade boys with 19 points, while David Dennis scored nine points. Oxford’s girls also earned a 72-27 win over South Jones Saturday.
Erika Sisk scored 54 points and had 14 assists in the two wins, while Kristen Dickerson had 23 points and 11 steals.
Meisha Gillom also chipped in 16 points and grabbed 15 rebounds.
OHS coach Shayne Linzy said the two wins were a direct result of playing good pressure defense and spreading the ball around.
All three teams will be back in action Tuesday at Charleston starting with a ninth-grade boys game at 5 p.m. (December 5, 2011, Page 3B)
