Dean, Smith named to 5A MAC Team

Oxford senior running back Mont Dean and junior offensive lineman Clifton Smith were named to the second team offense in Class 5A by the Mississippi Association of Coaches Monday.

Dean finished the 2011 season with 1,683 yards and 23 rushing touchdowns, both single-season records at OHS.

Smith helped open holes for Dean and protect for an offense that 299 points and over 3,700 total yards this year.

Other notable members of the MAC 5A team included Long Beach linebacker Richie Brown, who was named Defensive Player of the Year; Pearl wide receiver D.J. Thompson, who was named to the first team; Center Hill running back Richard Hampton, who was named to the second team; Saltillo wide receiver Jalen Gaston, who joined Thompson on the first team and West Point’s Tez Lane, who was named as a kick specialist on the second-team defense. (December 13, 2011, Page 7)
