Chargers pound Charleston in hoops action

Five players scored in double figures to help lead the Oxford Chargers to a 95-52 win over Charleston Tuesday night.

Oxford, which led 51-26 at the half, improved to 8-1 with the victory. Justin Fondren paced Oxford with 21 points. John Graeber scored 19 points thanks a 5-for-5 night from behind the 3-point arc. Romeo Johnson chipped in 16 points, Nick Brown had 12, while Devin Blackmon finished with 10 points. Oxford’s ninth-grade Chargers improved to 5-0 with a 33-16 win over Charleston. Michael McGhee had 10 points, while K.T. McCollin finished with six points. Oxford’s boys will return to action Saturday in the Coach “C” Shootout against Clinton. The game will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the Lafayette High gym.

OHS coach Drew Tyler said Clinton is a good 6A school that has two bonafide scorers. He thought it would be a good test for his team heading into its trip to Hoover, Ala., just before Christmas. (December 7, 2011, Page 6)
