Three days after claiming a second Class 4A state title, the Lafayette Commodores were on top of the football world in Mississippi.
Lafayette’s 16-0 record garnered them a final ranking of No. 1 in the final prep football poll released by the Associated Press Wednesday. LHS received five votes for No. 1, while Olive Branch, who won the 6A title, also claimed five votes to finish in a tie with the Commodores as the top team in the state.
Wednesday also brought other good news for Lafayette’s football program. Head coach Anthony Hart was named Coach of the Year in 4A by the Mississippi Association of Coaches, while 11 players earned recognition on the team. (December 8, 2011, Page 6)
