Turnovers, East Side end Water Valley’s season

WATER VALLEY — Turnovers finally caught up to the Blue Devils.

In the first two rounds of the MHSAA Class 3A playoffs, Water Valley turned the ball over numerous times but was able to persevere and advance.

Friday night the Blue Devils were not as lucky.

Aided by four turnovers, the East Side Trojans knocked off Water Valley 32-27 at Bobby Clark Field quarterfinals matchup.

The victory pairs the Trojans with the Charleston Tigers, fresh off of a 58-0 romping of Kossuth, in the Class 3A North Half Final.

“They were good but we beat ourselves and they took advantage. In big games you can’t make those mistakes,” senior cornerback Chris Conard said.

Twice the Blue Devils turned the ball over deep inside East Side’s territory, once on an interception by receiver Cole Camp from the 27-yard line, and once on an E.J. Bounds fumble at the Trojans’ 6.

Bounds also threw two more interceptions, the second of which ended the Blue Devils’ final possession of the season. (November 21, 2011, Page 3B)
