Reid standing out on impressive LSU defense

There are a lot of reasons why the No. 1 ranked LSU Tigers have one of the top defenses in the Southeastern Conference and nation this year. The Tigers have a great pass rush, they’re stout against the run, they have a ball-hawking cornerback that goes by the nickname “Honey Badger” and they have a ton of overall speed.

There are a bevy of names that have made individual contributions and big impacts on the unit, but a player that hasn’t been talked about quite as much, until lately, is sophomore free safety Eric Reid. The native of Geismar, La., located just 15 minutes from LSU’s campus, is currently leading the team in tackles with 57, while his interception late in the 9-6 win over Alabama may have saved the Tigers’ hopes of winning a national championship this year.

Reid said he was fine with a little less attention because every fan in Baton Rouge loves the team all the same. (November 18, 2011, Page 7A)
