Oxford earns sweep of Myrtle

Oxford’s middle school basketball season got off to a good start for the girls and boys swept Myrtle Tuesday night. The seventh-grade Chargers defeated Myrtle 28-11, while the eighth-graders won 37-17. Oxford’s seventh-grade Chargers won 26-7, while the eighth-grade Chargers won 25-11.

Jarkel Joiner led the younger Chargers with nine points. Colton Skidmore and Kevin Gibson each scored four points, while Cal Rock led the way in steals and assists.

Tiara King led the seventh-grade Lady Chargers with nine points. Ann-Marie Blackmon had six points, while Dariyon Baskin and Takayla Phillips each scored five points.

Emma Schultz led the eighth-grade Lady Chargers with nine points. Kayla Malone and Mia Shepherd each had six points, while Omoye Pegues had three points.

D.K. Metcalf led the eighth-grade Chargers with eight points. Kyree White had seven points, while Dee Fair finished with five points. Christopher Sandroni was credited with being the spark off the bench thanks to five steals and five assists. All four Oxford teams will return to action at home Monday against Coldwater at 5:30 p.m. (November 2, 2011, Page 9)
