OMS sweeps Ripley

Oxford swept a pair of middle school girls basketball games against Ripley Thursday night. The seventh-grade Lady Chargers won 32-23 thanks to 10 points from Tiara King, nine points from Ann-Marie Blackmon and six points from Takayla Phillips. The eighth-graders won 37-27 thanks to 16 points from Kyla Malone, 10 points from Emma Schultz and five from Thanh Thanh Hoang. Oxford will return to action Dec. 1 at Pontotoc.

The Oxford Middle School boys basketball teams continued their winning ways on Thursday as the seventh-grade squad rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit to beat Ripley 29-22, while the eighth graders won 52-38.

The seventh graders (4-0 overall) were led by Jarkel Joiner’s 16 points. Kevin Gipson scored five points. Colton Skidmore also had 10 rebounds and played well defensively according to coach Marlon Bell.

In the eighth-grade game, D.K. Metcalf and Kyree White led Oxford (5-0) with nine points, while Dee Fair scored eight. Tag Gatlin scored five points and also played great defensively and on the boards.

Oxford boy’s will return to action on Monday, hosting Olive Branch beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the OHS gym. (November 18, 2011, Page 7A)
