BLOG: Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt has confirmed that junior quarterback Randall Mackey, sophomore running back Jeff Scott and sophomore receiver Korvic Neat have violated team rules and well be suspended for at least Saturday’s game against No. 1 LSU with a possibility of missing the Mississippi State game next weekend.
“It is (disappointing). I hate it,” Nutt said. “Got to learn how to handle change and it’s tough for a lot of them, especially when a season doesn’t go just right it’s easy to let go. These last few weeks you try to teach them the best you can that life can be hard and lessons are tough, but there’s no easy way out. There’s no shortcuts, you know? You finish and do right. That’s the bottom line.”
Mackey, who will miss his second game this season due to suspension, and Scott were both listed as starters for the Rebels (2-8 overall, 0-6 Southeastern Conference).
Scott is Ole Miss’ leading rusher with 529 yards and six touchdowns.
Mackey has started six games, completing 77 of 155 passes for 1,112 yards, seven touchdowns and five interceptions.
Neat has played in seven games, catching one pass for two yards and rushing four times for seven yards.
STEPPING UP: Junior Zack Stoudt is expected to start in Mackey’s place at quarterback, while former Memphis University School All-America selection Barry Brunetti will also play.
At running back, Nutt said Brandon Bolden, Enrique Davis and Nick Parker will need to pick up the slack, while Philander Moore will have to help out at receiver and returning kicks and punts. (November 15, 2011)
