BLOG — The blur running up and down the field at William L. Buford Stadium Friday night was Lafayette running back Demarkous Dennis, who helped lead the Commodores to a 53-8 win over Greenwood thanks to a four-touchdown night on the ground.Dennis ran at, around and through Greenwood’s defense in the Commodores’ Class 4A playoff win to the tune of 304 yards on 20 carries. Dennis was magnificent again for the top-ranked Commodores, who improved to 13-0 overall with the one-sided victory. Dennis scored on touchdown runs of 2, 38, 25 and 62 yards in the contest to help bring his scoring total to 198 points on the season.
His rushing performance gave him two games this season where he has eclipsed the 300-yard plateau and pushed him over 2,000 yards for the second straight season. Dennis has now gained at least 1,000 yards in three straight seasons and has over 5,300 yards rushing in his career at LHS, a school record.
Dennis’ counterpart, quarterback Jeremy Liggins, also had a big night as he rushed for 40-yard touchdown in the first quarter and threw for two more touchdowns. LHS jumped out to a 29-0 lead and never looked back as it defeated the Bulldogs for the second times this season.
Up next for LHS is a North Semifinal game with Louisville at home next Friday. The winner of that contest will play either Amory or Cleveland in the 4A North Half title game on Nov. 25. (November 12, 2011)
