Dennis runs No. 1 Lafayette into next round

Lafayette senior running back Demarkous Dennis said he has been eating a little less at meals than normal now that the MHSAA’s Class 4A playoffs have started. His efforts to remain sleek and fast were definitely noticeable on the field Friday night as Dennis rushed for 303 yards and four touchdowns on 20 carries in the Commodores’ 53-8 thrashing of Greenwood at William L. Buford Stadium.

Dennis, who also caught two passes from quarterback Jeremy Liggins and added a couple of lengthy kickoff returns to go over 400 all-purpose yards, paced an offense that scored early and often against the out-manned Bulldogs. Dennis’ big night pushed him over 2,000 yards on the year for the second straight season and over 5,000 in his career with at least one more game to add to his total. (November 14, 2011, Page 2B)
