An outstanding defensive effort and some timely baskets late inside from Nikki Byrd proved to be the difference for the Ole Miss Lady Rebels in their 54-45 win over South Alabama Friday evening at C.M. “Tad” Smith Coliseum.
Ole Miss (2-1 overall) bounced back from its loss to Lamar by shutting down the Lady Jaguars (2-1) on defense. USA only shot 25.8 percent from the field, while leading scorer, Camille Reynolds, was held 17 points below her season average thanks to a great individual effort on defense by Amber Singletary.
