Senior running back Mont Dean finished his career as Oxford’s single-season rushing leader as he rushed for 115 yards against Clarksdale on Friday at Bobby Holcomb Field and finished the season with a total of 1,683 yards.
Dean broke the record with a rush early in the third quarter, eclipsing the previous record was held by Ken “Red” Smith, who had 1,602 yards in 2002.
“It was a special year for a special, special young man. He is very good at what he does,” OHS coach Johnny Hill said. “He has speed, power, vision. I can’t remember Mont going the wrong way ever. He is just so easy to coach. He’s special in a lot ways.” (November 7, 2011, Page 6B)
