Saturday’s end to the regular season in college football produced several coaching moves on Sunday. As Ole Miss’ search committee, led by Archie Manning, moved forward with the vetting process, several head coaching jobs in college football opened up that may impact the Rebels’ candidate list.
Memphis, Illinois, Kansas and UAB all relieved their respective head coaches from their jobs Sunday, while reports coming out of the Pac-12 said Dennis Erickson, Paul Wulff and Rick Neuheisel would be replaced at Arizona State, Washington State and UCLA as early as today.
According to information coming out of Memphis, current Arkansas State coach Hugh Freeze and Louisiana-Lafayette coach Mark Hudspeth were considered top candidates to replace Larry Porter, who went 2-10 this past season for the Tigers. Freeze and Hudspeth are considered to be high on Ole Miss’ list and both reportedly interviewed for the job on Sunday. (November 28, 2011, Page 1B)
