Oxford’s 2011-12 season opener saw the Chargers jump out to a 22-6 lead in the first quarter and hung on to top the Clarksdale Wildcats 56-54.
Justin Fondren led the Chargers with 24 points. Luke Gibbs had nine points, Devin Blackmon and Romeo Johnson each scored eight points, while Nick Brown finished with seven points.
The Lady Chargers beat Clarksdale 77-40 and were led by Erika Sisk, who had 19 points, Ivory Alexander, who had 14 and Moe Pegues, who had 12 points.
Coach Shayne Linzy pointed to a team effort and great defense as reasons for the win.
OHS will return to action tonight against Okolona in Tupelo. The Chargers’ home game with Amory on Thursday has been re-scheduled for Nov. 21. (November 7, 2011, Page 4B)
