All season the Oxford High boys cross-country team has shown through its strong times that it was one of the best teams in the state of Mississippi. On Saturday, with the best runners assembled at the MHSAA Class 5A state meet in Clinton, the Chargers punctuated an already fabulous season by winning the overall title. The victory garnered the Chargers their fourth overall state title and first since 1998 and finished the year ranked as the third overall program in the state behind Tupelo and Ocean Springs.
Senior Lucian DuChaine led four Chargers who were named All-State by winning the overall title in the 5K race with a time of 16 minutes, 44 seconds. DuChaine became the first runner to win an individual title at OHS since Thomas Blackwell did it in 1995. OHS head coach Scott Kendricks said DuChaine out-foxed two of the best runners in the state in capturing the crown. (November 7, 2011, Page 1B)
