Bulldogs top Rebels in Nutt’s finale

STARKVILLE — Houston Nutt sat down to deliver his final postgame press conference as Ole Miss’ head football coach following Saturday’s 31-3 loss to Mississippi State at Davis Wade Stadium. Even though there wasn’t a podium for Nutt to stand behind and answer questions from the media, after a season that produced the most losses (10) in the history of the program, Nutt probably felt more like sitting and resting than anything else.“It’s not the way I wanted to go out. We’re a team that’s very fragile and you can’t turn the ball over just like on the opening kickoff (of the third quarter). When things go bad, they go bad. It’s a team that lacks a little confidence right now,” said Nutt, who added it was the toughest situation he has gone through as a coach. “It’s hard for a younger group when they’re told that their coach is leaving. It’s just a real tough situation. It’s not an excuse, it’s a fact.
“It’s been very difficult and it’s been really hard on my coaches as well because they’re unsure of the future. This is the first time I’ve been in this situation so it’s very, very hard. It’s not easy. I hate it for our fans but there are a lot of good things coming.” (November 28, 2011, Page 1B)
