NWCC Rangers run over Bulldogs on Homecoming

SENATOBIA — Saturday was a happy Homecoming for the Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers as they defeated Holmes 66-41. The Rangers jumped out to a 24-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.

Quarterback Ryan Mossakowski threw two touchdown passes, both going to Marcus Henry, in the first quarter and finished the game with three touchdowns. He ended the contest 14-for-24 for 230 yards.

NWCC also had a big day on the ground as Al Hentz led the team with 207 yards and three touchdowns on just 13 carries.

Teshadi Talton also contributed 194 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries as the Rangers totaled 439 yards overall on the ground.

Hentz had a 10-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and two more touchdowns in the third quarter, including a 59-yard run with 1:41 left in the period.

Wide receiver Lance Ray, who caught a 29-yard touchdown pass from backup quarterback Dominique Harris in the third quarter, recorded a 73-yard kickoff return to push the Rangers score up to 59-41 with 8:49 left in the fourth.

Northwest finished with 698 yards, while Holmes finished with 500.

The Rangers will be back in action Thursday at Itawamba. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. (October 24, 2011, Page 3B)
