For the second time in three weeks and the fourth time this season a Northwest Mississippi Community College player has been honored by the NJCAA.
On Wednesday, kicker/punter Chase Carpenter was named the NJCAA Special Teams Player of the Week.
Carpenter made good on 9-of-9 PATs, knocked through his only field goal attempt from 24 yards and also averaged 46.3 yards-per-punt in the Rangers’ 66-41 win over Holmes on Saturday.
On the year, Carpenter is fifth in the state in scoring amongst kickers (49 points) while is 41.0 average/punt ranks third.
Northwest has now boasted a total of eight NJCAA Players of the Week this fall.
The Rangers will return to action tonight against a red-hot Itawamba squad at Lambert Stadium in Fulton.
Kickoff is set for 7 and can be heard on 93.7 FM.
A Northwest win, coupled with a Northeast loss at Copiah-Lincoln, would sneak the Rangers into the state playoffs as the No. 2 seed from the North Division. (October 27, 2011, Page 7)
