NEW HOPE — Some of the same miscues that prevented the Oxford Chargers from earning wins over the New Hope Trojans the last two seasons prevented the Chargers from ending that losing streak on Friday night.
New Hope defeated Oxford 43-22 in the Region 1-5A contest in large part because of the mistakes the Chargers made. OHS (3-3 overall, 1-1 in region play) committed four turnovers and six penalties and was forced to punt six other times during the contest by a New Hope defense that always seemed to dial up the right call to slow quarterback Parker Adamson in the passing game or Mont Dean running the ball in the second half.
If those mistakes weren’t bad enough for the Chargers, New Hope (4-2, 2-0) made them pay by garnering several big plays on offense in the second half. After Oxford’s defense held the Trojans to just 74 yards in the first 24 minutes of action, the Chargers allowed nine plays of 20 or more yards in the second half and 359 total yards.
