LHS teams finish second in Division 1-4A meet

CORINTH — Lafayette’s girls and boys cross country teams finished second in the Division 1-4A meet held Saturday at the Crossroads Regional Park.

The Lady Commodores and Commodores both recorded 66 points to finish second to Corinth on both sides. Also competing were Itawamba and Tishomingo County.

Esmeralda Rodriguez was named All-Division with a second-place finish with a time of 16 minutes, 36 seconds in the 4K race.

Peyton Hamann was also named All-Division with a fourth-place finish (17:09. Nikki Kesler was 11th (18:23). Hamann and Kesler were personal best times. Emily Boatright finished in 22nd with a 20:06, while Taylor Selby was the fifth Lady Commodore to score with a 22:07, good for 27th. Shantel Pope, Brooke Mardis and Ashlynd Smith also competed.

Derek Hart was named All-Division with a third-place finish Saturday. He finished the 5K race in 18:45. Ivan Lopez was also named All-Division with a 10th-place finish a time of 19:57. T.J. Hollis finished 16th with a 21:14, Sam Faulkner was 18th with a 21:39, while Jacob Roberts was 19th with a 21:47. Travis Lyles, Will Alexander, Wes Brown, Addison Roush, Gabe Champion, Nathan Hollis, T.J. Parsons and Nate McChesney also ran.

“Derek Hart and Esmeralda Rodriguez have been a part of everything good that happened in our program the last few years,” LHS coach Ben Mikell said. “It was good to see Derek earn that All-Division honor. Ezi just keeps adding to her list of accolades. Peyton Hamann is easily our most improved runner this year, male or female, and she showed that today. Nikki Kesler is coming along really well and Ivan Lopez has meant so much to us this year with his positive outlook. He deserved All-Division and he got it.” (October 24, 2011, Page 3B)
