Former Rebel arrested

Former Ole Miss baseball player Drew Pomeranz was arrested by the Oxford Police Department at 1:25 this morning and was charged with disturbing the peace.

Pomeranz was released on a cash bond at 4:40 a.m.

The left-handed pitcher made his Major League debut earlier this year with the Colorado Rockies organization after being a central player in the trade that sent ace Ubaldo Jimenez to the Cleveland Indians.

Pomeranz was 2-1 with a 5.40 ERA in four starts for the Rockies. He also struck out 13 and walked five in 18.1 innings.

UPDATE: According to the Denver Post, the Rockies have released the following statement: “The Rockies organization is aware of the unfortunate incident involving Drew Pomeranz that took place in Oxford, Miss. We have been in contact with Drew and his representatives and we will continue to gather information. Both Drew and our organization understand the serious nature of the situation.” (October 14, 2011, Page 7A)
