WATER VALLEY — The Blue Devils remained undefeated in Region 2-3A as they defeated the Nettleton Tigers 53-7 Friday night at Bobby Clark Field. As the squad broke the post-game huddle, there were plenty of grins and rambunctious shouts of Blue Devil pride.
“Any time you work hard and play well, you have to be gratified,” Water Valley coach Brad Embry said. “Like always, we told them to enjoy this one until Monday.”
Receiving the football first, the Blue Devils (7-2 overall, 3-0 Regon 2-3A) sliced through the Tigers. Water Valley put together a 42-yard drive that was capped off by a 6-yard touchdown scamper by senior running back C.J. Jackson.
As the Tigers began to march down the field, the Wrecking Crew defense took on a bend-but-don’t-break mentality. With the Tigers on the Water Valley 25-yard line, the Blue Devils forced a bad snap and defensive end B.J. White recovered the fumble at midfield.
Taking advantage of the turnover, Water Valley marched 50 yards down the field and scored on a 3-yard run by Jackson. The score gave the Blue Devils a 14-0 lead with 2:18 left in the first quarter. (October 17, 2011, Page 5B)
