Despite big game, dropped pass by Moncrief stands out

Donte Moncrief had his best game as an Ole Miss Rebel on Saturday, hauling in a career-best five catches for 73 yards and two touchdowns.

His second score with just more than a minute remaining in the game brought Ole Miss within five points.

And yet, post-game, the focus surrounding the freshman’s day was on the one that got away.

Midway through the third quarter with the Rebels facing third-and-8 from their own 31-yard line, quarterback Randall Mackey spun a ball deep down field.

Moncrief raced under it and actually had the ball in his hands.

But with an Arkansas defender draped on him, the Raleigh native bobbled the pass as he was brought to the turf and the ball came out.

Ole Miss was forced to punt, and five plays later Arkansas quarterback Tyler Wilson found his way into the end zone on a 1-yard score to put the Hogs ahead 24-17. (October 24, 2011, Page 1B)
