Late in the 39-3 blowout, Conard overheard two underclassmen cutting up while their teammates continued to battle the Tigers on the field.
The horsing around didn’t sit well with Conard and he let the two know as much.
Maybe Conard saw some of his younger self in the freshmen — he has, afterall, been playing on the varsity squad since eighth grade.
Or perhaps the senior thought the joking served no purpose other than to belittle the team’s efforts.
Whatever the reason, Conard put an immediate end to it, giving the talkative tandem a tongue lashing that defensive coordinator Richard Russo overheard and supported. (October 7, 2011, Page 6A)
