Bounds’ big game leads to POW honor

WATER VALLEY — E.J. Bounds showed flashes of his youth at times on Friday.

The sophomore quarterback also came up big when the Blue Devils needed him most in their 21-20 overtime victory at Mooreville.

It was because of those football heroics that Bounds was named this week’s EAGLE Player of the Year.

In addition to rushing for three touchdowns — including a 10-yard run in overtime that put Water Valley ahead for good — Bounds also led an 84-yard scoring drive that included a 37-yard pass to tight end Alden Burns and a 24-yard run on fourth down.

Bounds finished the game with 153 total yards of offense.

In recent weeks Water Valley has whittled down the playbook to help suit Bounds’ strengths. (October 4, 2011, Page 7)
