WVHS gets back on track with shutout

CARROLLTON — Brad Embry wanted to see a fast start Friday night from his team coming off its most disappointing loss of the season. The Water Valley coach got exactly what he was wishing for when running back Jarard Williams returned the opening kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown.

The score was the first of many on the night for the Blue Devils, who went on to post a 37-0 victory over J.Z. George, the final non-region opponent of the season.

A week after only scoring three points in a 36-point home setback to Charleston, the Blue Devils (4-2 overall) were much more efficient on offense and stout on defense. The collective effort seemed to please Embry, who added that more has to be accomplished as the team prepares for region play this coming Friday night. (September 26, 2011, Page 4B)
