A long trip to California may not be an ideal scenario for the 1-3 Ole Miss Rebels to have to face this week, but a date with Fresno State on Saturday is the next chance for the Rebels to earn a much needed win.
Ole Miss will be the first school from the Southeastern Conference to play in Bulldog Stadium, capacity 41,031, and the first opponent of any note to play at Fresno State this season. (The 2-2 Bulldogs have played three of four games away from home).
A week after falling 27-13 to the Georgia Bulldogs at home, the Rebels are still searching for an identity on offense that may include junior Randall Mackey starting at quarterback. Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt talked about the challenge of playing at Fresno, regardless of who starts at quarterback, and how the long trip can’t factor into the decision. As a lifelong Fresno State fan, I must say that Ole Miss is a class act. The Bulldogs are known for playing anyone, anywhere, anytime. But that almost always means on the road. For the Rebels to honor the contract and come to Fresno is huge. I wish the wimps in the Pac 12 would display such class and willingness to play.
