DECATUR — The return of Adrian Golden to the lineup only made the offense for the No. 6 Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers that much more potent on Thursday night. The Rangers totaled 426 yards in a 42-19 win over East Central, while Golden, who has been limited during the summer drills with a sprained ankle, added 94 yards and a touchdown on just 11 carries.
Golden, a native of Tarpon Springs, Fla., transferred to NWCC from Butler CC in Kansas. Golden’s touchdown came on a 15-yard run just before halftime. NWCC led 14-6 at the time and his touchdown run came just three minutes after East Central recovered a fumble and scored on a 38-yard touchdown.
Aiding Golden on the ground was Teshadi Talton, who finished with 100 yards on 15 carries. NWCC quarterback Ryan Mossakowski continued to showcase his talents as he threw for 161 yards on 14-for-24 passing and four touchdowns, including two to Talton. Wide receiver Lance Ray also continued to shine as he caught three passes for 61 yards, including a 23-yard touchdown pass from Mossakowski at the 4:56 mark of the first quarter. The Rangers led East Central 14-0 at the end of the first quarter and were up 21-6 at the half. The Rangers scored an early touchdown in the third quarter to take a 28-6 lead, allowing coach Ricky Woods to insert Dominque Harris into the contest for the first all season. Harris ended up running for an 8-yard touchdown at the 8:43 mark of the third quarter. He finished the contest with 17 yards on the ground and was 1-for-4 passing for 36 yards.
Former Oxford High standout Demarius Pegues tied for the team lead with four tackles.
NWCC will be back in action Thursday against MACJC North Division rival East Mississippi in Senatobia. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. (September 9, 2011, Page 9A)
