Pomeranz promoted to Rockies

Former Ole Miss ace Drew Pomeranz was promoted to the Colorado Rockies following three perfect innings for Double-A Tulsa Drillers on Monday.

The promotion comes just over two weeks after Pomeranz had an emergency appendectomy, an operation that was expected to end his season.

Pomeranz finished his whirlwind minor league year — that was split between the Cleveland Indians and Rockies organizations — with a 4-3 overall record between and a 1.78 ERA.

In 101.0 innings, Pomeranz struck out 119 and walked just 38. Opponents were hitting just .189 off of the southpaw.

Pomeranz, a fifth overall pick in 2010, was a key player in a trade earlier this year that sent starter Ubaldo Jimenez to the Indians. (September 6, 2011, Page 7)
