Chargers looking to knock off New Hope

Oxford High football coach Johnny Hill couldn’t find too many things to be displeased with in his team’s Region 1-5A opener. Buoyed by an off week that allowed the team to refresh and refocus on the start of region play, the Chargers walloped Center Hill 34-14 last Friday night at home. Blue Devils face tough test at Mooreville Friday

Friday it will be evident if Water Valley’s difficult non-region schedule paid off.

No. 10 NWCC Rangers hosting No. 15 NECC tonight

A matchup of two top 15 junior college football teams will highlight the week’s matchups in the MACJC North Division on Thursday as the No. 10 Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers (3-1 overall, 1-1 in North Division) play host to No. 15 Northeast (4-0, 2-0) at Bobby Franklin Field. Junior college presidents drop ball on local athletes, programs

COLUMN: Leave it to a collective group of college presidents to effectively tinker with something that isn’t broken.

When the junior college presidents of Mississippi decided late Tuesday that they were eliminating the protected recruiting list for all sports, getting rid of the current athletic districts and greatly reducing the amount of scholarships for out-of-state players, they all but killed junior college athletics in this state. Diamond Rebels release 2012 schedule

The Ole Miss baseball team will host 32 home dates and play seven series against NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago, Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco announced on Wednesday with the release of the 2012 baseball schedule.

Season tickets for the upcoming season go on sale in November and season ticket packages remain for the 2012 campaign. Fans are encouraged to secure their spot early in what has become one of the nation’s premiere college baseball atmospheres. (more…) (September 29, 2011, Page 8)

Oxford soccer coach wins top award

Laura Flint, the coach of the Under 12 Girls D2 soccer team, was recently named Coach of the Year for girls competitive soccer by the U.S. Youth Soccer Association. Flint, who is also the head coach of the Oxford High girls team, has helped the Oxford Extreme reach great heights during her tenure and she was rewarded with her leadership and dedication by the organization as the top coach in the state of Mississippi.
