Ole Miss claims fifth-straight Magnolia Invitational title

Back at the friendly confines of the Gillom Center for the first time this season, the Ole Miss volleyball team took care of business this weekend to claim the Magnolia Invitational crown.

After defeating Arkansas-Little Rock 3-0 (25-19, 26-24, 25-21) and Northwestern 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 31-29, 25-20) on Friday, the Lady Rebels finished the weekend sweep by topping Central Arkansas 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-13) on Saturday.

Ole Miss had a dogfight on its hands in the first set on Saturday against the Sugar Bears.

Trailing for the entire set, the Lady Rebels regrouped late and eventually earned seven of the final nine points — including a solo block by All-American Regina Thomas at the middle of the net for the final point — to claim a 25-22 victory.

The rest of the match Ole Miss was able to play with a lead and after earning a tough 25-19 victory in the second set, the Lady Rebels jumped on the Sugar Bears in the third set to the tune of a 25-13 victory. (September 12, 2011, Page 4B)
