NWCC passes past Coahoma

Led by the passing of quarterback Ryan Mossakowski, the No. 9 Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers defeated Coahoma 44-21. Mossakowski finished the night 18-for-29 for 339 yards and three touchdowns.

Mossakowski also rushed for a touchdown in the Rangers’ first MACJC North Division win of the season that also improved to 3-1 overall.

NWCC led Coahoma (0-4, 0-2) 14-7 at the end of the first quarter and then took control of the contest in the second quarter by outscoring the Tigers 16-0.

Mossakowski recorded his 1-yard touchdown run in the second and found Londen Parker for a 9-yard touchdown reception with 6:41 left before the half.

Teshadi Talton had another big night rushing for the Rangers as he carried the ball 18 times for 123 yards and a touchdown. Dominique Harris, the Rangers’ backup quarterback, also added to the rushing touchdown total with a 12-yard run in the third quarter.

Former Oxford High standout La’Darrick Anderson finished with three tackles in the victory, while former OHS standout wide receiver Deante Smith caught one pass for 26 yards.

NWCC will be back in action Thursday at home against No. 19 Northeast (4-0) in another big North Division contest. (September 23, 2011, Page 7A)
